The European project EUMA (Creating a European Higher Education Network for Master’s Programmes in Disaster Risk Management) invites professionals in the field of civil protection and disaster management to participate in the specialised EUMA Workshop, taking place from 30 June to 1 July 2025 in Tallinn. Under the title “Geopolitical and Security Issues in Risk Management”, the workshop aims to deepen expert knowledge on current security challenges in Europe and to develop practical approaches for improving the management of complex crisis situations. In light of increasing geopolitical tensions, technological risks, and overlapping crises, the workshop seeks to foster professional exchange and provide new impulses for future-oriented risk governance.

The programme will address a range of highly relevant topics: challenges for civil protection arising from geopolitical threats in Europe, the involvement of third countries in crisis response – particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic – as well as the implementation of the Seveso III Directive on chemical safety in a security context. Further key themes include raising security awareness in digitally interconnected societies, strengthening long-term preparedness at the community level in the face of so-called polycrises, and the application of scenario-based approaches to tackle multimodal crises. The workshop combines expert lectures with interactive discussions and also offers opportunities for networking, including a joint dinner in central Tallinn on the evening of 30 June.

Participation in the workshop is free of charge. Interested professionals can apply by 30 May 2025 by submitting a CV and a short motivation letter (in English).
