From February 19 to 21, 2025, the Sustainability Science Summit 2025 took place in Berlin under the motto “Advancing Sustainable Development”. The conference continued the series of German Future Earth Summits and was organized by the German Committee Future Earth (DKN). Its goal was to foster discussion and exchange on current scientific findings, research needs, and funding opportunities in the field of sustainability science.
Around 250 participants from Germany and abroad gathered at the Umweltforum Berlin. Across three plenary panel discussions and more than 30 parallel sessions, topics such as the role of sustainability science in societal transformation, international research funding, and the impact of political developments on sustainable transitions were explored.
A key outcome of the summit was the publication of the DKN statement “Sustainability Research More Urgent Than Ever!” which outlines clear demands for both science and policy – including the need for secure funding, interdisciplinary research, and evidence-based decision-making.
Recordings of the plenary sessions, a photo gallery, and selected results from the graphic recordings are available on the DKN website. Additional coverage is published on the Future Earth website.
