Berlin, March 25-27, 2025 – The AHEAD Project team from AFPCNT and DKKV gathered at the German Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction to discuss their ongoing work and future plans.
During the project meeting, Frederic Tatout from AFPCNT, and Reimund Schwarze and Ronja Winkhardt-Enz from DKKV provided updates on their respective AHEAD work. They shared their progress, focusing on the development of a disaster damage data map and the latest report on the Stakeholder Hub. They also discussed the implementation of cross-border test beds, which are crucial for enhancing the project’s impact across Europe.
In addition to the project meeting, all participants attended the session titled “Extreme Weather Events – Harnessing Synergies to Foster Disaster Preparedness through a Network of Networks.” This session, held on March 26, emphasized the importance of creating a “Network of Networks” to improve disaster preparedness. Representatives from AFPCNT, DCNA, and DKKV explored how national platforms can be more closely networked to share knowledge, data, and best practices across borders. The session highlighted also the AHEAD project and shared experiences from Germany, Austria, and France. It demonstrated how scientific networks, civil society, and authorities can collaborate more effectively to strengthen crisis management and prevention. With the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in Europe, the need for cross-border disaster prevention has never been more evident.
The AHEAD Project team left the conference with renewed commitment and valuable insights for advanced disaster damage and loss data information system for enhanced impact-based knowledge across Europe.
