Revenue from emissions trading in Germany reached another record level of around 18.5 billion euros in 2024. The revenue from European and national emissions trading flows into the Climate and Transformation Fund and supports the achievement of climate targets. While revenue from EU emissions trading fell by 28 per cent, revenue from national trading for heat and transport rose by 21 per cent. UBA President Dirk Messner emphasises the importance of the revenues for the social and economic policy support of the climate-neutral transformation and calls for a climate money to support households in the event of rising CO2 prices.
