The National Soil Monitoring Center at the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) was opened in Dessau-Roßlau on 02.12.2024 to centrally pool and evaluate data on the condition of soils in Germany. The aim is to strengthen soil protection, monitor the long-term development of soil condition and develop scientifically sound measures. The facility is operated in cooperation with federal and state authorities and various institutions. Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke and UBA President Dirk Messner emphasize the importance of healthy soils for nature, climate protection and the livelihoods of future generations. The center is intended to help improve data on soil quality and develop strategic measures to protect soils that are also of international importance.
