The European electricity supply system is undergoing a fundamental transformation due to numerous parallel and sometimes uncoordinated changes. These changes increase the risk of major disruptions and a possible supra-regional blackout, which would not only lead to a nationwide blackout, but could also result in unforeseeable chain reactions in supply logistics for which neither society, the economy nor the state are prepared.
