The Federal Cabinet has approved the draft of the KRITIS Umbrella Act, which is intended to create uniform nationwide standards for the protection of critical infrastructures (KRITIS). In future, organisations from sectors such as energy, health and transport will have to introduce measures such as emergency power supply, access controls and crisis management. The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will assume a central coordination role.

Our personal member Manuel Atug from the KRITIS working group criticised that the draft contains numerous gaps, for example in the involvement of the federal administration, and lacks concrete information on costs and effort. The outsourcing of many responsibilities to the federal states is also problematic. Atug called for improvements to ensure resilience more effectively, particularly in view of the growing threats posed by climate change and geopolitical risks.
