The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) has received the first large vehicles for the new EU unit ‘rescEU CBRN Decon Germany’, which specialises in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies. This unit, which was developed as part of the EU project ‘rescEU CBRN Decontamination Capacity’, is to be deployed across Europe from 2026 if national capacities are not sufficient to deal with CBRN hazards. The new specialised vehicles will strengthen the THW and European cooperation in civil protection. The project is being funded by the EU with 37.5 million euros to improve Europe’s resilience and cross-border cooperation.
