The international co-operation ‘FlashFloodBreaker’ was launched to be better prepared for flash floods. 13 organisations from six countries, including the Emschergenossenschaft and the DKKV, are involved in the project.
On 30 September, a flood exercise took place on the Rhine in Duisburg, in which over 150 participants from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Ireland took part. The Duisburg fire brigade was the lead organisation, supported by the volunteer fire brigade, the THW and reservists from the German Armed Forces.
All partners presented their emergency equipment and tested various sandbag and mobile dyke systems, as well as emergency power generators. The project has a total cost of around 12 million euros and will run until 2028.
Overall, the meeting was a practical international exchange of experience, and further exercises are planned as part of the project.
