The ‘Helping Hand’ award is Germany’s most important honour for voluntary work in civil protection and is presented annually by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland (BMI). It recognises the work of over 1.7 million volunteers in various categories such as innovative concepts, work with young people and support for volunteers. For 2024, 15 projects have been nominated from around 640 applications. The award ceremony will take place on 3 December in Berlin, with the winners receiving prize money of up to 9,000 euros.
