The next Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction will take place on 27 and 28 October 2027 in Berlin. The event is currently being planned in a new format. Further information on the thematic focus and programme will be published over the coming months.
Since 2016, the conference has been organised by the German Red Cross, with the support of the Federal Foreign Office. It provides experts in national and international humanitarian disaster risk reduction with a platform to discuss current challenges, exchange experiences and initiate new collaborations.
The importance of this interdisciplinary exchange was highlighted at the 2025 edition, entitled “From Climate Change to Crisis: Integrating Climate Change Considerations into Disaster Risk Reduction”. The discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges posed by a changing climate, as well as on how climate-related knowledge can be better integrated into disaster risk reduction and response.
The German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV) has been represented on the conference’s planning committee since its inception and actively contributes to shaping its professional content. The exchange between academia, practitioners and various civil protection stakeholders helps create synergies and strengthen resilience to disasters.
