The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) invites qualified experts to apply to join the core team for the preparation of the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities (SR Cities), to be published in 2027.

The collaboration requires a considerable amount of time, especially for Coordinating Lead Authors, who will take part in several Lead Author Meetings (LAMs) in 2025 and 2026 and will play a key role in shaping the report. Review editors are also involved, albeit with a smaller time commitment.

Further information on report preparation can be found on the website of the German IPCC Coordination Centre under report preparation and the IPCC rules.

Collaboration is free of charge, although travelling expenses can be reimbursed in justified cases. The IPCC emphasises the importance of a broad diversity of perspectives and disciplines, including contributions from the humanities, social sciences and urban planning. Applications from women, young scientists and experts from developing and newly industrialising countries are particularly welcome.

Nominations in Germany are made via the Federal Foreign Office in cooperation with the German IPCC Coordination Centre. Interested parties can apply to de-ipcc@dlr.de by 5 September 2024. Experts abroad should contact the respective IPCC Focal Point.
