SUMMARY:GFDRR Launch Event - Designing Inclusive and Accessible Warning Sys
tems: Good Practices and Entry Points
DESCRIPTION:The UCL Warning Research Centre invites you to join them for "D
esigning Inclusive and Accessible Warning Systems: Good Practices and Entr
y Points” organised by GFDRR. Recognising the importance of inclusive ea
rly warning systems (EWS)\, the United Nations and the World Meteorologica
l Organisation have launched an initiative called 'Early Warnings for All'
. This is because disasters do not affect all populations equally and ofte
n have a disproportionate impact on the world's most economically and soci
ally vulnerable. Men\, women\, boys\, girls and gender and sexual minoriti
es face different vulnerabilities in the context of disasters. In addition
\, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups are affected di
fferently and often face unique challenges in the face of disasters and cl
imate change. Effective and inclusive early warning systems (EWS) are crit
ical to enable early action that can protect the lives\, livelihoods and a
ssets of the most vulnerable groups. In addition\, the World Bank and GFDR
R have invested significantly in hydromet projects and EWS in all regions\
, and with the focus on inclusivity in the GFDRR strategy\, it is critical
to identify opportunities and ways to design and build inclusive EWS. Tar
geting development practitioners\, government officials\, and development
partners\, this panel will discuss the findings from a new report that see
ks to identify good practices and entry points for integrating inclusivity
into early warning systems using case studies and an assessment of gaps a
nd actions that may be taken to build inclusivity into EWS investment prog
rams.\n\nThe report will be available online following the event.\n\nThis
 event is free.\n\nDate/Time: 2 May\, 10:00 am-11:00 am New York time\n\nLo
cation: Online\, via MS Teams To join online\, go to the MS Teams calendar
