SUMMARY:From Awareness to Action: Practical Steps Towards Disability-Inclus
 ive Disaster Risk Reduction
DESCRIPTION:How can organizations make disaster risk reduction more inclusi
ve\, accessible and responsive to the needs and leadership of persons with
disabilities?\nPersons with disabilities are disproportionately affected
before\, during and after disasters\, yet accessibility\, inclusion and me
aningful participation are still not sufficiently prioritized in many disa
ster risk reduction initiatives. Strengthening disability inclusion is the
refore essential to ensuring that disaster preparedness and prevention eff
orts leave no one behind.\nThis online training event\, organized by the U
nited Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)\, the Sendai Stak
eholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM) and its Disability Stakeholder Group\,
together with the Thematic Group on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Ac
tion\, focuses on translating awareness into practical action. Through rea
l-world examples and interactive discussions\, participants will explore a
chievable ways to integrate disability inclusion into their organizations
 ’ policies\, programmes\, partnerships and advocacy efforts.\nThe sessio
n will emphasize the leadership\, expertise and meaningful participation o
f persons with disabilities and their representative organizations. It wil
l also examine how stronger coordination\, evidence-based advocacy and sus
tained investment in disability-led initiatives can contribute to more inc
lusive and effective disaster risk reduction at local\, national\, regiona
l and global levels.\nParticipants will leave with practical steps they ca
n begin implementing immediately\, as well as a clearer understanding of h
ow organizational action can support broader international efforts to prot
ect persons with disabilities in disaster situations.\nThe event is aimed
at civil society organizations\, disaster risk reduction professionals\, h
umanitarian practitioners\, policymakers\, advocates and other stakeholder
s committed to building more inclusive and resilient communities.\nFurther
