SUMMARY:Droughts\, Floods and Food Systems Risk Dialogue – Part III: Turn
ing Food System Risk into Food System Resilience: Innovative Solutions for
  Drought Management
DESCRIPTION:Droughts and floods pose increasing challenges to food systems
worldwide. Weather-related shocks threaten agricultural productivity\, inc
rease volatility in global commodity markets and disrupt supply chains. Th
ese impacts particularly affect farmers and households\, weakening their l
ivelihoods and putting food security at risk.\nThe third session of the in
ternational “Droughts\, Floods and Food Systems Risk Dialogue” series
explores how food system risks can be transformed into long-term resilienc
 e. Under the title “Turning Food System Risk into Food System Resilience
: Innovative Solutions for Drought Management”\, experts and participant
s will discuss innovative approaches to managing drought risks and strengt
hening global food security.\n\nThe discussion will focus on a range of so
lutions\, including financial instruments such as climate finance\, insura
nce schemes and social safety nets\, as well as climate-smart and regenera
tive agriculture. Innovative technologies\, including precision farming an
d AI-driven farm analytics\, also offer opportunities to improve agricultu
ral practices and strengthen preparedness for climate-related risks.\n\nA
practical example comes from Somalia\, where the ODOROS dashboard combines
satellite imagery\, climate and weather data\, socioeconomic indicators\,
displacement data and market information. The system aims to provide loca
l drought analyses and predictive information to support early warning and
anticipatory action.\n\nThe event offers a platform for international kno
wledge exchange and highlights how financial mechanisms\, sustainable agri
cultural practices and digital innovations can contribute to more resilien
t food systems in the face of climate-related challenges.\n\nFurther infor
mation about the event and registration can be found here.
