SUMMARY:Cities on the Frontline: Addressing extreme Heat - learning from Pa
 ris at 50 degrees
DESCRIPTION:As cities around the world continue to grow\, they are also inc
 reasingly facing different challenges\, for instance\, from the impacts of
  climatic changes\, such as extreme heat. Due to urban population and infr
 astructure density\, cities are particularly vulnerable to different impac
 ts of rising temperatures. Cities not only need to create coping mechanism
 s to deal with today's risks of extreme temperature\, but in the face of a
 n even more dangerous development in the future\, city planning is respons
 ible for finding adaptation methods for future risks. Looking at Paris as 
 an example of cities actively approaching the challenge of heat\, by apply
 ing community- and technology-based approaches\, as well as focussing on g
 reen spaces and reflecting surfaces\, this session will explore a city's p
 otential of becoming less vulnerable to heat.\n\nFurther Information and t
