DESCRIPTION:The Asia-Pacific Mayors Academy was launched in 2019 by the 
 United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (
 ESCAP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) –
  in cooperation with the United Nations University\, Institute for the A
 dvanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS)\; the Association of Pacific Rim
  Universities (APRU)\, United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (U
 CLG ASPAC) and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
 \nAfter the successful conclusion of four cohorts\, the fifth edition for 
 2024 is being launched.\n\nThe Academy engages newly elected or appointe
 d city mayors/governors in the Asia-Pacific region to participate in an 
 annual fellowship and build their capacities to develop and implement sust
 ainable urban solutions in their communities\, in support of the New Urban
  Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Generally\, mayor
 s/governors join the Academy in the first one-third of their term in offic
 e\, although special circumstances may apply.  Interested mayors/governor
 s elected since 2023 are strongly encouraged to apply.\nThis year\, the Ac
 ademy is scheduled to take place from April 2024 to October 2024. The Aca
 demy will deliver tailored activities to Mayors through both virtual an
 d physical sessions coupled with ongoing peer-learning and builds a networ
 k of local leaders across the Asia-Pacific committed to sustainable urban 
 development. The physical sessions will be a part of the programme at the 
 12th Session of the World Urban Forum\, to be held from 4 to 8 November 20
 24 in Cairo\, Egypt.\n\nDeadline for application is 10th March 2024.\nPlea
