DESCRIPTION:The webinar\, led by the United Nations Development Programme (
 UNDP)\, in partnership with the United Nations Office of Disaster Risk Red
 uction (UNDRR)\, will deliberate upon the challenging notion: "Can disaste
 rs be avoided?"\n\nIt will analyze approaches being advanced to prevent ha
 zards from turning into disasters\, look at promising examples from a rang
 e of countries and discuss how ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking is helping co
 untries and communities prevent adverse fallouts from hazard events.\n\nTh
 e Building Resilient Urban Systems webinar series supports implementation 
 of the Political Declaration of the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework
 \, which was adopted by countries at the UN General Assembly in May. MCR20
 30 has mobilized 28 national governments and 1\,560 local governments comm
 itted to strengthening disaster and climate resilience at the sub-national
  level. The global initiative is a ‘who’s who’ of partners with unma
 tched expertise and experience of supporting greater urban resilience.\n\n
